Walk A Mile: Creek-Side Kill-Core

Remember when metalcore was good? No?! Well we do, and this band is a prime example of that nostalgic endeavor. Walk A Mile, a now defunct metalcore band from Trail Creek, Indiana, allowed us to host their kick-ass three-song demo from 2004. This band wasn't another run of the mill generic like the huge majority that made up their genre, these guys were good musicians and they knew good music. No whiny vocals parts, no emo guitar riffs, no bullshit like that. Walk A Mile played good melodic metal with tasteful breakdowns that were not easy to forget, not because they were cliché, but because the were NOT. At the formation, the band was inspired by an array of bands ranging from Propagandhi, down to Nehemiah and Coma Eternal. As the band grew, they definitely took on their own sound as they built the era of WAM. These guys did Indiana proud, especially on this last demo. Do not let the negative connotations that are normally associated with the word "demo" keep you from trying this one on, the recording quality is as awesome as the music is!

Black The Sky: Peoria's Murder Militia

The death metal marauders of Peoria, Illinois' Black The Sky have been long time friends with UCR. After the band split in 2009, they decided to let us help the legacy live on. Coming from Dying Fetus and Suffocation-eske influences, but still leaving that homegrown after taste, Black The Sky took an old school sound and revived the youth of the death metal scene. With a screaming crowd and pile ups that the hit the ceiling, if you ever saw the band play live, it was very clear that they knew how to get everyone's blood flowing, if not totally spilling. The guitar riffs had a good balance of choppy and melodic parts that stalked lyrics that sound like they were written by Harmony Corrine. Upon reading the words to some of the songs, or even the song titles, it is apparent that at least one member of the band has seen a snuff film or two. It is very easy for bands of this genre to have ultra-shitty sounding recording quality, but Black The Sky delivers with a super clear and damn heavy album all around.

Under City Records Expands Free Digital Distribution Catalog

The mission of Under City Records is to make all good music as easily available as possible for all means of personal music consumption. That is, whether you prefer a gatefold double LP, good ol' fashioned CD's, YouTube videos, internet radio, or downloading digital music, you should be able to get what you need. Continuously recognizing and addressing new channels of music distribution and listening platforms, the goal is to deliver good music into the ears of as many good people as possible.

It is simply to embrace the idea of digital music piracy. Aware that millions of songs have been downloaded "illegally", we want to establish a legitimate way to keep the massive free market inertia rolling. Picture this; there is this guy (or gal) who downloads entire discographies of bands that they had never heard of just to see if they like the music. Say this person likes the music they downloaded, and they then go on to buy one of the artist's albums on vinyl, or on CD, or on iTunes, and maybe they even go to see the band live at a show or at a concert. Maybe this person now listens to these newly heard of artists on a regular basis on their iPod or on an internet radio account such as Pandora or Spotify. As for the bands that this person did not like, the music was simply deleted; no harm no foul. If the "illegegally" downloaded songs intrigued the person enough to cause them to see the band perform live, and that band just so happened to put on the most amazing live performance that this person had ever experienced, then that band just earned themselves a supportive life-long fan all because of "illegal" file sharing. Recognizing that different people listen to music in different ways and that the degree to which each person is involved with the music can differ drastically, we believe that free music will undoubtedly still remain as one of the best marketing tools to gain bands exposure and to potentially create supportive fans. Even if some people only download the music and never support the band, chances are they would not have been the kind of people who buy a vinyl, CD, or digital download as their first listen for a band anyway. Regardless of listeners supporting the acts or not, the bands are still reaching more ears and given more chances of creating fans through the free music model than if we all of the music was kept reserved only for those willing to pay.

Under City Records has and will continue to allow all music to be downloaded for free in an effort to get the bands heard by as many people as possible. The label's entire discography can be found on our website. With that in mind, we are constantly presenting new additions to the UCR free online digital distribution catalog.

Indiana Hardcore - SHUT THE FUCK UP!

Yet another tough-as-nails hardcore band is emerging from the infamous Midwest region of the United States. SHUT THE FUCK UP features ex-members of Blood In/Blood Out, Hard To Kill, as well as other Midwest tyrants, along with a current member of Beresith. STFU are as rowdy as they are heavy. With songs like "Down With The Devil", "Animal", "Depression", and "Dirty 30 Annihilator ", this Indiana hardcore band fuses punk, with old school hardcore, laced with grimy and evil lyrics that proves the band name as nothing more than being worthy! Shut The Fuck Up are loud, aggressive, and , frankly, doesn't give a damn.

A full demo can be downloaded for free via Under City Records.
